  13. Design Process - Fluvial Geomorphology >>> Increasing Sediment Supply >>> Moderate Stream Slope Flat Stream Slope Steep Stream Slope 2nd National Flood Workshop: Westside Creeks Restoration

  14. Design Process - Vegetation • Natural Succession takes place over centuries • This goal of this project is to take the Westside Creeks from barren flood channels to a “climax community” in ~50 years 2nd National Flood Workshop: Westside Creeks Restoration

  17. Degrees of Restoration Intensity Type A: This restoration alternative defines locations where the extents of stream modifications are expected to remain essentially within existing ROW limits and publicly owned property. Type B: In locations where additional property may be required to meet flood mitigation needs, the restoration alternative is shown with potential ROW expansion into existing privately owned properties. Flood mitigation is being coordinated with the Master Planning efforts in the San Antonio River basin and the dredging project in Elmendorf Lake. 2nd National Flood Workshop: Westside Creeks Restoration

  18. Project Phasing The first phase recommended for implementation includes 9 stream reaches (4 Type A and 5 Type B) and trails along the entire Westside Creeks, totaling approximately $300M. Of these Phase 1 projects, 4 were selected as initial demonstration projects (Totaling $50M, + $10M for trails on all other stream reaches, in coordination with the Linear Trails Initiative): 2nd National Flood Workshop: Westside Creeks Restoration
