  6. Police Administration Police agencies have many complex administrative activities that must be completed on a regular basis. These include but are not limited to: • Planning • Budgeting • Hiring • Training employee • Purchasing • Maintaining equipment and facilities

  7. Administration Activities There is three police agency’s administrative activities categories: Line operations: Activities that serve the public and the goals of the organization directly are for the most part under line operations. These can include patrolling, traffic management, criminal investigation, communication with the public, organized- crime control, juvenile and community services, controlled substance, and school services.

  8. Administration Activities cont.. Administrative support: These are activities that serve the agency’s needs and little impact on serving the community. These include hiring and training, budgeting, and internal affairs. Although these activities are not usually outsourced, smaller jurisdictions have found it cost-effective to outsource some training support by collaborating with other agencies and outside advisors. These include the storage of unclosed case files, property, and evidence.

  9. Administration Activities cont.. AuxiliaryServices: Activities that support line operations are sometimes known as Auxiliary Services. These services include records maintenance, property and evidence management, forensic laboratory services, detention, alcohol testing, facilities and equipment maintenance. Some auxiliary services can be out- sourced too.
