  2. About the Quran • Verbatim word of Allah • Allah->Jibril (Gabriel)->Muhammad • 114 chapters (sura), nonlinear • Desecration of a Koran is forbidden. That means no pulping, recycling, or discarding. Must be left free to flow in a river, kept safe, burned, or buried in a remote location.

  3. Contents • Contains laws, moral lessons, historical events, and prophesies • Shares characters and stories with the Torah/Bible (ex. Adam and Eve, Moses, Jesus)

  4. A Little About Islam • "Voluntary submission to God" • Muhammad Allah's last prophet • Founds religion in 610 AD • Sunni and Shia sects -Sunni larger branch, considered orthodox -Shia translates to "faction of Ali" (Muhammad's cousin/son-in-law)

  5. Five Pillars of Islam • Shahadah: One God, Muhammad is His messenger • Salat: Islamic prayer to be preformed five times a day • Zakat: Alms fiving • Sawm of Ramadan: Fasting during the month of Ramadan • Haij: Pilgrimage to Mecca

Overlap With Judaism and Christianity • Shares stories and characters with Torah/Bible • Also shares similar laws and concepts • Muslims believe that Jesus was a messenger of God and a Messiah, but believe that he was a mortal prophet, not the son of God. They also do not believe in the crucifixion/resurrection, but believe in God raising him into the heavens, and in a second coming.
