Shane Lowney: Engineering A Way to Give Back

Shane Lowney grew up in Tampa, Florida. He left the town briefly to attend college at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) and returned after graduation. While at FIT, Shane met a fellow student and Engineering major named Christine. The two are now happily married and both pursuing their careers in the field. Christine is also a Florida native.

Shane Lowney: Engineering A Way to Give Back A love of volunteering combined with a devotion to giving back to the community are traits that Shane Lowney’s parents passed on to him at a very young age. Shane comes from a long family lineage of volunteerism. His mother and father both spent a majority of their time organizing various fund raising events. Shane’s dad also contributed his talents as an Engineer on various projects within their community in Tampa, Florida. Similarly, Shane’s mother initiated a family tradition of attending food drives and helping out at shelters. The family was particularly active during the holiday season. As a boy, Shane had a small lemonade stand – as most budding entrepreneurs do at that age – and instead of using his earnings towards the latest toy or gadget, he asked his parents if he could donate them. This attitude towards giving also appeared while in college at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT). Here, Shane Lowney met his now wife Christine and the two bonded immediately over a mutual love for not only Science and Engineering, but giving back as well. They were both a part of numerous community service projects in their extracurricular time. Now as an adult, Shane’s devotion to giving has not diminished in the slightest bit. In addition to being a husband and successful Mechanical Engineer, Shane makes a point to make time in his busy schedule for giving back. He and his wife Christine have continued his family’s tradition of volunteering during the holidays at soup kitchens and homeless shelters. In addition to this, Shane has also donated to an array of charitable organizations. He and Christine typically chose a couple foundations a year to personally sponsor. They devote monetary gifts as well as large amounts of their time. Like his father, Shane has also donated his talents as a Mechanical Engineer towards various building projects in the Tampa, Florida area. Shane and Christine do not yet have children of their own due largely in part to their hectic schedules. Should they make the decision to start a family, they both agree that instilling their values of compassion and giving are at the top of their list of parental duties. Shane Lowney is a Tampa, Florida resident who was born and raised in the area among a family determined to make the world a better place by lending a helping hand. With his talents and prosperity as a businessman he has continued to honor their dream – which has also become his own.
