  1. Muon PDT Commissioning Status Neeti Parashar Northeastern University for the DØ Muon Upgrade Group

  2. Which PDTs ? • B and C-layer PDTs. • All are 3 deck PDTs (72 wires, 3 Front_End Boards, 1 Control Board). • On east side, on the top. • PDTs: 111, 121, 131, 211, 221, 231. PDTs Readout • The above group of 6 PDTs. • PDTs 131 and 231 read before. Noticed synchronization error.  Crossing numbers mismatch. Critical issue: • Resolve this sync. Error.

  3. PDT Front_End and Readout Setup 1 FEB CB Muon Readout Crate 2 PDT VME VBD MFC MRC 3 Front_End System A B 1 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12 1 FEB CB PDT 2 3 Source of all decisions Trigger Framework Front_End System

  4. Synchronization Error • Every other Turn number and crossing number was 0xFFFF, as monitored by the Readout Crate Software. Steps taken to address the problem • Sten had to change some jumpers on the Control Board (Not an issue). • He adjusted the appropriate setting of the transmitters and receivers on the cable, without which a turn no was lost every 5 sec. • Solution: Change the hardware equations for CPLD to accommodate the propagation time of the new frequency multiplier. Critical issue: • Resolve this sync. Error.

  5. Tests done • Pulser data was run on these 6 PDTs, with a fixed crossing and turn no. from the TFW. • Result: No Synchronization error noticed. Other jobs • Some changes have been made in the Front_End Readout code, wrt L3 data format, L3 transmission and 1553 multiblock transfers. • The CBs are set to communicate with the high speed UART rate of 2.5 mB. • There was a software downloading problem, but fixed. • MuoExamine revised to dump events with errors.

  6. What next ? • Readout the 6 PDTs successfully, without errors. • Everything needed to begin the test is in place. • Use L3 filters on the data for hit reconstruction. Installation Progress • 12 more B and C-layer CBs have been installed. • All are on the east side, vertical side. • Sufficient gas available to fill these, but the process shall halt till we have read the group of top 6 PDTs. • 6/12 have been tested with pulser, others in progress.

  7. Plans for the next month • Read the 6 top PDTs successfully, without any errors. • Readout the side 12 PDTs. • Readout 18 Central East side PDTs.
