  4. Justification/Narrative According to Wools, the media center should be a welcoming place for the primary customers, which are the faculty and students. I chose to redesign the floor plan of the media center at Hardaway High School because the current layout does not provide an overall positive first impression. It is a very spacious room with five rooms and a large open area. There are technically four entrances and exits, but only two are used by students. One is reserved for the faculty members coming in and out of the teacher workroom. The final exit is not used currently. One of my greatest concerns as a relatively new media specialist is visibility. I would want to make sure I could see all the activity in the media center. Because of this desire, I would move the circulation desk from its current location of in front of the offices to the middle of the room. This move would also provide the media specialist to actual greet the patrons when they enter the media center instead of having to wait until they arrive at the desk. I would also make other changes in the room of the media center. As we reduce the number of non-fiction through weeding, we do not need the amount of shelf space we currently have. I would take the area in the back left of the media center and turn it into a meeting area with a SMART Board and projector so that small classes or groups could meet and have access to the technology they need. I would also convert an office that is currently occupied by our magnet coordinator and make it a biography/multi purpose room with additional technology as needed/requested. In addition, I would completely rework the current A/V storage with updated shelving and more organizational tools for electronics and media. In addition, I would add a fourth computer station to mirror the other three and reposition the reading nooks to accommodate the changes. With the circulation desk being placed in the center of the room, I would also place some type of welcome board (possibly electronic) to the front of the room to greet patrons. We could also possibly consider making Entry and Exit Only doors to make traffic flow more smoothly.
