OUR EXPLORATION ASSIGNMENTCreating a New Database Containing an Empty Table; Adding Table Fields and Setting Table Properties in Datasheet View; and Using the Access Wizards to Create a Form, Query, and Report • OBJECTIVES: • In this project, you will: • add fields to an empty table in Datasheet view • create a form using the Form Wizard • create a query using the Simple Query Wizard • create a report using the Report Wizard Unit 4 Project 18

  3. Starting Out! • Start the Access application and then create, name, and save a new database containing an empty table. • Start the Access application. • Create a new blank database containing an empty table. Save the new database as inventors18 solution. Unit 4 Project 18

TRAIL MARKER 1Adding Fields to an Empty Table in Datasheet View • Add data to the first row and allow Access to set the Data Type property and assign temporary field names. • Key Sarah (Madame C.J.) in the first field in record 1 and tap the TAB key. Key Walker and tap the TAB key. • Key 1867-1919 and tap the TAB key. Key African-American hair care and cosmetics and tap the TAB key. • Key The Black Inventor Online Museum and tap the Down arrow to save the record. Unit 4 Project 18

TRAIL MARKER 1Adding Fields to an Empty Table in Datasheet View • Rename the table fields, then switch to Design view and add captions to two fields. • Tap the ENTER key after keying the Source field name; then save the table as 19th-century Inventors and switch to Design view. • Add the First Name caption property to the FirstName field and the Last Name caption property to the LastName field. • Save the table and switch back to Datasheet view. Click the Columnar option button and click the Next button. • Key Inventors Data Entry in the What title do you want for your form? text box. Click Finish. • The new form opens in Form view. TRAIL MARKER 3Creating a Query Using the Simple Query Wizard • Use the Simple Query Wizard to quickly create a query. • Click the 19th-century Inventors table name in the Navigation Pane. • Click the Query Wizard button in the Queries group on the Create tab. • Click Simple Query Wizard in the list of wizards and click OK. Click Next. • Click the Tabular and Portrait option buttons; then click Next. • ( Select the Access 2007 style for your report.) • Click Next. Key List of Inventors as the report name. • Click Finish. Close Print Preview and close Access. Unit 4 Project 18
