  2. Main Issue • Legal Recognization The government, via National Registration Department do not allow changing the gender listed in the Identification Card even after the Sexually Reassignment Surgery

  3. Impact On Transsexual Women • No Medical Access Towards • Hormone Replacement Therapy • Feminization • Securing Employment • To gain full employment base on qualification • Leading A Life • Unable to lead a life as a person you choose to be • Clashing between physical self and documentation

Impact On Transsexual Women • Religious Discrimination • The syariie law implicate trans woman as “a man dress in woman’s clothing” – may be fine up to RM1k or 6 months in prison or both • Syariie law differ between each states • SRS has been ban, the government hospital no longer performing such procedure after a fatwa being issued on the subject

  5. Challenges • Internal • Self acceptance by own self • Disunity in understanding the issue • Self divide among the community base on look, wealth, education, employment, etc • External • Wrongly understood by people at large

Recommendation • Seeking legal redress on syariie law • Case in point – Jue Seremban • Championing / Pursuing legal action • Case in point – Sg Petani’s Miss G Queen • Intensive Advocacy Works • Conducting Awareness Session • Having Talks on gender & sexuality • Networking with other civil society, getting funding, professionals to help/advise/guide on legal issues, communication, empowerment etc
