  2. The Disaster Game is a thinking tool used to create unique and highly detailed disaster event scenarios that engage and challenge exercise participants. First, we must decide what type of exercise(s) we want to run – Response (Crisis Management) Resumption (Process Recovery) Relocation (Workgroup Recovery) Recovery (Systems Recovery)

  3. The Disaster Game is a thinking tool used to create unique and highly detailed disaster event scenarios that engage and challenge exercise participants. To build a Response(Crisis Management)event, we separateHearts from theEvents deck.

  4. The Disaster Game is a thinking tool used to create unique and highly detailed disaster event scenarios that engage and challenge exercise participants. Next, we determine the Day of the Weekby rolling a 6 – sided die. 1= Monday 2= Tuesday 3= Wednesday 4= Thursday5= Friday 6 = Weekend (roll again) 1,3,5 = Saturday2,4,6 = Sunday

  5. The Disaster Game is a thinking tool used to create unique and highly detailed disaster event scenarios that engage and challenge exercise participants. NOTE: #1 Question asked by our user community – “How do I read this four-sided die?”Shaped like a pyramid, the number that is right side up is your roll: 4 Next, we determine the Time of Dayby rolling a set of 4 dice:a 20, 4, 6, and 10 sided. Add the 20 & 4 sided dice for the hour (16+4= 20 [or 8:00 PM]), then use the 6 sided for the tens of minutes (20) and the 10 sided for the single minutes (2) Time = 20:22 (8:22 PM) Thursday

  6. The Disaster Game is a thinking tool used to create unique and highly detailed disaster event scenarios that engage and challenge exercise participants. If Weather is a consideration roll a 6 – sided die three more times to determine Sky, Wind, and Temperature. Sky - 1 or 2 = Clear 3 or 4 = Cloudy 5 or 6 = Precipitation Wind - 1 or 2 = No Wind 3 or 4 = Light Winds 5 or 6 = High Winds Temperature - 1 or 2 = Low 3 or 4 = Medium 5 or 6 = High

  7. The Disaster Game is a thinking tool used to create unique and highly detailed disaster event scenarios that engage and challenge exercise participants. Now it’s time toPick a card, any cardto select your Event. NOTE: Because this is a ResponseEvent, the situation is unfolding as the scenario builds. As such, you don’t see the complete picture right away. Instead, it comes in three steps, with a break between each step.

  8. The Disaster Game is a thinking tool used to create unique and highly detailed disaster event scenarios that engage and challenge exercise participants. 2-5, Circumstance (Instant): added at the same time as the initial Event card 6-9, Near Term Development (24-48 hours): Selected and held until the appropriate time in the scenario to play 10-K, Mid Term Development (72-144 hours): Selected and held until the appropriate time in the scenario to play Ace, “Murphy” (Random, but last): Always fun and exciting, select and hold until the worst possible time to play However, since nothingever goes as planned,we’ll add a few Variables. There are four Types of Variables you could have. To determine how many, roll a 4 – sided die. If you roll anything other than a four, roll again as needed to determine the type(s), selecting no more than one card from each category.

  9. The Disaster Game is a thinking tool used to create unique and highly detailed disaster event scenarios that engage and challenge exercise participants. You just created a Response scenario!

  10. The Disaster Game is a thinking tool used to create unique and highly detailed disaster event scenarios that engage and challenge exercise participants. If you want to scale up the exercise scope and add another plan type, simply select the corresponding Event card from the suit you want to add, then roll and select additional Variables (from that suit) as needed.
