  1. Nipissing University Women’s Centre(NUWC) Presentation to: Women in Business Luncheon 6 November, 2007

  2. About Us The Nipissing University Women’s Centre was established by interested students over five years ago. We create events to raise awareness of gender issues on campus and throughout the community, and offer a resource library of feminist and social welfare literature. In 2006, the NUWC team successfully campaigned to have the Centre funded through student fees. Provide a welcoming environment in which women and men can come together to share their thoughts, feelings, support and opinions.

  3. Take Back The Night Take Back The Night is an internationally renowned march and movement to raise awareness of violence against women and girls. Every year since 1976, men and women have marched along city streets to reclaim the night.

  4. December 6th Vigil The Women’s Centre hosts a vigil every year in memory of the fourteen women killed at The École Polytechnique, December 6, 1989 in Montreal. This year we are making this a community event, and looking for partnerships with interested businesses and groups.

  5. The Our Voice • We create a newsletter that is released twice a semester on campus, and in locations through the community. • We are currently seeking women-owned and women-friendly businesses who are interested in advertising in the Our Voice.

  6. International Women’s Week • The Women’s Centre sponsors a series of events that takes place each year surrounding International Women’s Day – March 8th. • This past year we celebrated “The Green Issue” with guest speaker Maude Barlow.

  7. The Vagina Monologues On March 9 & 10th, the Women’s Centre will present our second annual performance of Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues. This event has been very well attended, and an excellent opportunity to enjoy dinner and a show with those you work so hard with.

  8. NUWC in the Community Looking to expand into the community, this year NU Womens Centre will: • Establish a constitution to define its operations • Liaise more and partner with local businesses. • Seek further professional development training – through efforts like these!

  9. Working with the NUWC The Nipissing University Women’s Centre is hoping to explore its options in working with community organizations who are interested in developing a tolerant, progressive community. • Sponsorship opportunities • Using the NUWC as an on-campus resource
