Mvv 30 GeV arguments 1) One has to choose one value for reconstructing the boosted variables. 2) We showed in the plots that the SM Higgs has the best resolution and the smallest bias for Mvv = 30. The largest difference can be observed for BDPsill. The rest of the variables show similar resolutions. 3) Looking at Mvv = 50 one sees that it might be better to use for spin 2; However looking more close at BDPsill the resolution for Mvv = 30 is a better choice. 4) This means that there is a preference for using Mvv = 30. 5) There is also a - maybe more personal preference - because we want to reconstruct in the best possible way the SM spin 0 Higgs and see how the angular distributions in the rest frame deviate from the measured ones.

  4. Mvv 30 GeV arguments 6) If one does not think only of a spin 2 Higgs but also of a CP odd spin 0 Higgs one sees that Mvv = 30 is preferred for CP odd. 7) Note that this choice does not introduce an analysis "bias”. All the calculations are done consistently with Mvv = 30. So the MC predictions for spin 2 are done with this value. The final fit is done using the predictions for the boosted variables for spin 0 and spin 2 particle using Mvv = 30. This procedure removes any bias in the spin (e.g. epsilon) results.

  5. Cut based results The cut based results have been presented in HSG3 properties meeting on the 22 November 2012. They include the full toys results for 50 bins Bdpsill Esum. Unfortunately the results were not yet included in the January Spin Analysis note. The results are for LHC style (similar to the BDT note results) and are shown on the next pages. These results should be included asap! med q2 = 1.30675 p2_exp=0.089 p2_obs=0.1265 Z^2_exp=1.34694 Z^2_obs=1.14309 med q0 = 2.54585 p0_exp=0.1115 p0_obs=0.3865 Z^0_exp=1.21859 Z^0_obs=0.288453

  8. Cut based results Plots show data and fit for fixed spin 0 and 2 fits for the 50 bin fit results. These plots are already included in the Analysis note.

  9. Next steps: Stats • The following steps are prepared: • Move to the new HWWStatistics-09 code (done) • big thanks to Manuela • Extract also TeV style exclusion limits • code is ready for that • Analyse the other qq/gg (100 75 50 25 0) working points • Workspaces are created • Extract LHC and TeV style exclusion limits • Jobs are running on the grid for toys (5000 events) • Might need a few days to finish Plan (if agreed) is that the moment we change the note to adopt the TeV style results for 13 fb we make available in the note all qq/qq results for the BDT and the cut based.

  10. Next steps: 20 fb • First studies on cut flows and plots for BDPsill and Esum are ongoing • Concerning the WW extrapolation from the CR to the signal region studies are being done by Doug. If this converges on a different treatment this has to be coded in the stats framework. Biaggio’s proposal: both the BDT and the cut based will then follow this new treatment. • It would be really good if the Toy generation gets speeded up, it already becomes a bottle neck. • Start looking into CP odd spin 0 case. • What is the CP odd spin 2 situation? Can we go ahead with e.g. MADGraph samples?

  11. Conclusions • Replies to Ed board questions on Mvv are given • Results for the cut based analysis have been presented • The LHC style results for the nominal gg/qq should be included asap • Results are in the pipeline for TeV style limits and different gg/qq fractions (slide 9) • Some studies on the 20 fb have been started (slide 10) • I think this answers the list of items to be addressed from Doug of 31 January (or do I miss something?).
