  7. Training Command - Military Academy “Academicians of Hranice“ History of Vyškov Since the middle-ages the triangle-shaped square has formed the town center. The most significant cultural sights of the town are as follows: the chateau, the Church of the Ascension of Our Lady and the chateau gardens. The Vyškov Region Museum is accommodated in the chateau, the Railway Museum is in the local railway station and the Museum of Aviation and Military Equipment is on the premises of the old airfield. Vyškov has been the seat of a military garrison since 1936. Vyškov, thanks to the former Ground Forces College, was a university town from 1972 – 2004. After the AFCR reform, Vyškov became the seat of the Training and Doctrine Directorate which has been succeeded by the current Training Command – Military Academy. There are more than 1100 caverns and gorges. But only 4 caves of the total number are open to public. There are Punkvevní jeskyně (Punkva Caves) with their underground river – during the cruise you can see the bottom of the famous Macocha Gorge. Another cave is Kateřinská jeskyně (Catherine’s Cave) with its unique limestone columns. The Balcarka Cave is full of colorful stalactic decoration. Sloupsko-šošůvskéjeskyně (Sloup-šošůvka Caves) are comprised of huge corridors and underground gorges.
