  2. DEFINE • The change in size, shape, or state of matter being formed.

  3. describe • When something is one thing then you do something to make it different.

  4. EXAMPLE • When salt dissolves in water, the salt seems to disappear. When the water evaporates the salt remains. Evaporation and dissolving are physical changes.

  5. Research • Each molecule that makes up ice is made of two atoms. When liquid water evaporates the water molecules speed up and move farther apart. Their motion has changed, but still the same as before. The rusting of iron is an example of slow change. The atoms don’t change when physical reaction or physical change takes place.
