  1. Religion Major Task (PBL) By Marcus So, Matthew Abraham, Aaron Alam and Franko Georges.

  2. What is this task about? • As a group we were asked to develop and create and advertisement to show society that violence and injustice do exist in the world. Furthermore we need to show how the world can help and prevent violence and injustice.

  3. Definitions • Violence-an unjust or unwarranted exertion of force or power, as against rights or laws. • Injustice-violation of the rights of others; unjust or unfair action or treatment.

  4. Examples of violence and injustice in our world. • Violence is abundant in our world. We see it everyday from school to your front street. Whenever you see someone fighting someone else, that’s violence. Injustice is also very common in our world. There are many types of injustices such as racism, sexism etc.. There are many organizations that have taken the injustices and tried to fix them, using good and bad methods. One such organization is the KKK. The KKK tried to eliminate most of the black population in America.

  5. The KKK • The KKK stands for the Ku Klux Klan. The KKK tried to eliminate most of the black population in America. They were ruthless against black people, burning them and torturing them, thinking that eliminating them would be the answer. In the end the KKK ended on a bad note with most of the members sent to jail.

  6. Human Zoos • Humans were an important means of bolstering popular racism by connecting it to scientific racism: they were both objects of public curiosity and of anthropology and anthropometry. Joice Heth, an African American slave, was displayed by P.T. Barnum in 1836, a few years after the exihibition of Saartjie Baartman, the "Hottentot Venus", in England. Such exhibitions became common in the New Imperialism period, and remained so until World War II. Carl Hagenbeck, inventor of the modern zoos, exhibited animals aside of human beings considered as "savages".

  7. Racism in everyday circumstances • Racism isn't just in organizations, its everywhere, even in schools. People who are a different color such as black people are often excluded from activities that involve normal “white” people. Racism can also be found in workplaces. White people are often given more acceptation in the workplace rather than black people.

  8. Racism in celebrities • Famous soccer players Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry have both been subjected to racism in the soccer field. Each time either of them were on the field, the crowd would make monkey impersonations and throw bananas at the players. Thierry Henry was once so angry at the crowd, he threatened to walk off the field.

  9. How can we stop violence and injustice in our world? • The key to stopping injustice is understanding. If everyone could understand that everyone was equal then there wouldn’t be any need for organizations such as the KKK or people getting hurt. If everyone just understood that we are all equal then there wouldn’t be any conflict, no violence.

  10. That’s IT! • Thanks for listening to our final PBL task and hope you enjoyed it! • By Marcus So, Franko Georges, Aaron Alam and Matthew Abraham
