AFFECTAs a verb, to affect something means to cause it to change in some way. Affect is mostly used as a verb.Examples: • My cold was affected by the weather. • We are hopeful that the heavy rains predicted for next week will affect the drought.  • High cholesterol can affect the heart. • The price of gasoline affects the economy • The quality of your work affects your grade. • A Good Rule of Thumb: Ask yourself- Do I need to add a verb or noun to my sentence? EFFECTAs a noun, effect means the result or outcome of a cause. Effect is mostly used as noun. Examples: • Its possessive • The effect of global warming is that glaciers will melt and sea levels will rise. • Do you know about the side effects of energy drinks? • The effectof making the correct choice is a better grade. • The special effects were amazing.   • The law will go into effect tomorrow. • A Good Rule of Thumb:Ask yourself- Do I need to add a verb or noun to my sentence?
