Build on ourSuccesses Perimeter Students areExcelling Designing a MarsRover Perimeter engineering students Emily Paxton and Joshua Dulle designed a mock Mars rover prototype this summer at Langley Research Center in Virginia as part of NASA’s National Community Aerospace Scholarsproject. HelpingAbroad Decatur Campus students and Professor Fernando Rochaix loaded 10 donated computers with Spanish language educational software.The computerswere delivered by Guatemala study abroad students led by Perimeter professors Ernie Guyton and Dr. PriscillaDodds.

  6. Build on ourSuccesses Gates Scholar Perimeter 2016 graduate Yizra Ghebre was named a Gates MillenniumScholar. Jack Kent Cooke Scholars Yitbarek Katzentet, one of the 15 Perimeter students who have received the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship. He now studies petroleum engineering at the University of Southern California.

Build on ourSuccesses An algae-bloom-collecting, Roomba-style robot proposed by Perimeter College students was a national finalist in the second annual National Science Foundation Community College Innovation Challenge. Perimeter won the People’s Choice award during the competition in June in Washington,D.C.

  8. Build on ourSuccesses Fun with Math and Science Since 2012, Marjorie Lewkowicz’s math classes have volunteered at Austin, Dunwoody and Vanderlyn elementary schools to offer Math Nights and STEM Days, devising games to engage youngstudents. ScienceOlympiad Perimeter hosts a Science Olympiad event each year for high school students, typically drawing 24 teams from participating highschools.

  9. Build on ourSuccesses Performing On Stage Perimeter’s children's Theatre class performed "Me No Choose None:The Stories of Anansi" for children at the Clarkston Library and at Onstage Atlanta. Studying Abroad Students from Perimeter toured London during a Study Abroad trip this summer.

  10. Build on ourSuccesses Summer BridgeProgram Perimeter Collegeoffers STEM programs aimed at giving two-year students a chance at undergraduate research. The programs—the Peach State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, along with STEP, the Science, Technology, Engineering and MathematicsTalent Expansion Program—are funded through grants from the National ScienceFoundation.

AugmentSupport for OnlineStudents • Recent Study by Institute for Higher Education Leadership & Policy at Cal State Sacramento revealed a 70 percent online dropout rate in California CommunityColleges. • However, the study also reported higher graduation rates for students taking online courses.
