Over 61% are nuclear family HH in BPA • 50 % of the population in Block I & II are nuclear family HH • The municipal area has a larger share of nuclear family HH • The percentage of Single family dwellers is marginal

The percentage is more in the municipal area. Dwellers residing in pucca house in block I & II is around 35 % • About 45 % of people resides in Kutcha house in block I & II

The percentage is high in Block I & II • Marginal dwellers resides in rented house. The percentage is almost zero in Burdwan I & II block. Demand for rented accommodation is relatively high in the core municipal areas. 18% in stratum 1, 10% in stratum 2 and 8% in stratum 3

The percentage is high (48.9 %) in Block II. • 23.2% live in accommodation between 750-1200 sq ft. The percentage is slightly high(24.5%) in the municipality area

But recently, the trend is shifting towards multi storied structure due to construction of few of the world class townships.

  10. Housing Indicator- Covered Area per Household • Gr and Gr+1 structure are predominant in BPA • Around 80 % belong to the above category • Multi- storied structures are not so popular. Only 2% in BPA • Housing condition: • Mixed land use, commercial on ground floor and residential on first floor is predominantly seen in core areas like Ranigunj Market at Bijoy Chand road • Housing condition is poor in the area. • Wholesale market at Natun Gunj has Gr+1 and Gr+2 structures. • Housing areas of Netaji Nagar and Kanai Nath are typically private housing with G+1 structures and narrow internal roads. Profile of Future Projects • Three Townships in BPA to be developed with PPP Model • ULHAS Township: • 94 acres mini township developed by Bengal Ambuja Housing Development Ltd. in association with the Bardhaman Zilla Parishad. • Startegic location at the junction of GT Road and its bypass • Located on the eastern fringe of Bardhaman town. • Two satellite townships coming up mainly for HIG’s and MIG’s • Township at GODA: 250 acres, located in Western fringe of BPA • Township at KAMNARA: 88 acres , located in Northern fringe of BPA HOUSING • Two ends of GT road are the likely future nodes of activity • The North-West and South- East area of the BPA has potential for development of newhousing projects.

Slums • Various Slum improvement schemes are implemented till date in the municipality and the two blocks of planning area. • Slum improvement • Street paving • Drain cleaning • Water supply to slums • Construction of community toilet • Electrification of the slums • Poverty alleviation under the Prime Minister’s scheme. • Swarna Jayanti Swarojgar Yojna by women of Slums • 233 units have been constructed under the VAMBAY schemes on the bye bass road • The schemes has affected 504 slum pockets having a population of around 21,000 HOUSING
