Skills development & attraction Good things already happening: Attracting skills eg, MBIE (Immigration) online tools for migrants and employers Developing skills & working with tertiary - Education & industry partnerships eg, Youth Guarantees Network, online job profile tools Working with tertiary eg, best example is at Masters level

  4. Skills development & attraction Actions & agencies: More detailed exploration of the gaps – what are the trends and what sectors are growing? More co-investment between government, councils, business & philanthropists  need to fill the gaps Local body restructure  Wellington Policy Office

  5. Skills retention & support Good things already happening: Change in government focus to be more outcomes focussed Internships / cadetships – connections between education & business community Developing resources that focus on retention eg, Settlement Unit, Immigration NZ

Skills retention & support Actions & agencies: Matching skills and job demand – needs more evidence base, govt funding and sharing of information Internships – collaboration between education training providers, employers & business etc Scale of our city and values, and knowledge of village  we need to build on this Ensure we have enabling infrastructure eg, UFB & airport extension, public transport

  7. Job creation Good things already happening: No real game changers But a bit of growth in retirement homes & childcare centres And people like living here…

  9. Unemployment/ youth/ ageing workforce Good things already happening: “Takes a community to raise a child” “Collaboration” Resources/opportunities – training eg, Whitireia Industry partnerships, especially at a national level  does this filter down? Careers advice & wrap-around services

Actions & agencies: Improving the quality of careers advice (starting at primary school) – more industry /local focussed activities  taking a local approach to strengthen the transition from study to work Transitional services  how is this followed up after high school? In and out work support for young  mentors (who are connected to the community)/ work coaches/ SME support Collaboration – Informal eg, connecting people to networks; Formal eg, councils leading & facilitating Unemployment/ youth/ ageing workforce
