  3. 40 50 70 64 130 80 2nd periodH.W. Solutions

  4. The measure of an angle formed by a tangent and a chord is half the measure of the intercepted arc. ACUTE angle OBTUSE angle

  5. Examples: ACUTE angle OBTUSE angle

  6. ANGLES SummaryWhen the vertex is… Center On Circle Inside Circle Outside Circle

  7. How do I find the lengths of segmentsformed by two lines that intersect? Question: For a given point and circle, the product of the lengths of the two segments from the point to the circle is the same along any line through the point and circle.

  8. Ex.1: Two chordsAlways start at the point of intersection!

  9. Ex.2: Two secantsAlways start at the point of intersection!

  10. Ex.3: Secant & tangentAlways start at the point of intersection! • The tangent segment counts twice!

  12. Circles in the Coordinate PlaneCh. 11.5 Today’s Goal(s): To write an equation of a circle. To find the center and radius of a circle.

  13. Writing an Equation of a CircleAn equation of a circle with center (h, k) and radius r is: • Standard form:

  14. How do I write the equation of a circle?Ex.1: • center (5, -2); radius 7

  15. You Try…Ex.1 • center (3, 5); radius 6 • center (-2, -1); radius

  16. EOC REVIEW #5Wednesday Just write your answer!

  17. H.W. Questions pg. 135 #’s 1-6 and pg. 140 #’s 1-6 • 87º • 40º • 60º • 55º • x = 94º, y = 80º • 120º

  18. How do I write the equation of a circle when I am given the center and a point on the circle? • We need to find the radius!! • Use the distance formula to find the distance “radius” between the 2 points!

  19. Use distance formula to find the radius. Substitute center and radius in standard form. Ex.2:Write the standard equation of the circle with center (1, -3) that passes through the point (2, 2). Or… Pythagorean Theorem!!

  20. You Try…center (-2, 6); passes through (-2, 10)

  21. If you know the standard equation of a circle, then you can graph it using the center and radius.Ex.3: Graph each circle. a.) Center = _____ Radius = _____

  22. a.) b.) Ex.4: Use the graph to write the equation of the circle.

  26. Station #3 • a = 40, b = 140, c = 90 • a = 118, b = 49, c = 144, d = 98 • a = 90, b = 90, c = 70, d = 65

  27. Station #4 • a = 95, b = 85 • x = 37 • x = 57, y = 44.5, v = 51, z = 129

  29. PhotographyYou focus your camera on a fountain. Your camera is at the vertex of the angle formed by tangents to the fountain. You estimate that this angle is 40. • What is the measure of the arc of the circular basin of the fountain that will be in the photograph?

  30. Bridge DesignThe arch of the Taiko Bashi is an arc of a circle. A 14-ft chord is 4.8 ft from the edge of the circle. Find the radius of the circle.

  31. ClassworkGeometry Book pg. 617 • 1, 4, 7 • 11, 15 • 17, 18 • 29, 31
