  1. The Coordinate Plane

  2. The x-axis and y-axis separate the coordinate plane into four regions, called quadrants. II (-, +) I (+, +) III (-, -) IV (+, -)

  3. An Ordered Pair (5,10) X coordinate Y coordinate

  4. Direction of Movement for the X-Coordinate Y-axis If the x-coordinate is positive move this way If the x-coordinate is negative move this way X-axis

  5. Direction of movement for the Y-coordinate Y-axis If the y-coordinate is positive move this way If the y-coordinate is negative move this way X-axis

  6. Always start at the origin and move on the x-axis first when plotting n ordered pair.

  7. How To Plot a Point on the Coordinate Plane Y-axis (4,4) Next move on the Y-axis X-axis (-3,-1) First move out on the X-axis

  8. Name the given point. Y-axis (1,3) (-2,1) X-axis (-5,-1) (4,0)

  9. Name the quadrant in which each point is located(-2, -7) • I • II • III • IV • None: x-axis • None: y-axis

  10. Name the quadrant in which each point is located(0, 3) • I • II • III • IV • None: x-axis • None: y-axis

  11. Name the quadrant in which each point is located(-5, 4) • I • II • III • IV • None – x-axis • None – y-axis

  12. What is the ordered pair for A? 5 • (3, 1) • (1, 3) • (-3, 1) • (3, -1) • A 5 -5 -5

  13. What is the ordered pair for B? 5 • (3, 2) • (-2, 3) • (-3, -2) • (3, -2) 5 -5 • B -5

  14. What is the ordered pair for C? 5 • (0, -4) • (-4, 0) • (0, 4) • (4, 0) 5 -5 • C -5

  15. What is the ordered pair for D? 5 • (-1, -6) • (-6, -1) • (-6, 1) • (6, -1) 5 -5 • D -5

  16. Write the ordered pairs that name points A, B, C, and D. A = (-4, 0) B = (2, -3) C = (0, 1) D = (-3, -4) 5 • C 5 -5 • A • B • D -5
