NEON Science Mission Identify and understand critical variations and interactions in environmental drivers that will enable forecasting the state of ecological systems for the advancement of science and the benefit of society. Environmental drivers Biotic AbioticSocial biodiversity geochemistry economics invasives hydrology land use/ disease climate land cover 4

  5. NEON Education Vision Prepare society and the scientific community to use NEON data, information, and forecasts in order to understand and effectively address critical ecological questions and issues. 5

  6. NEON Project Office Set up in September 2005 at AIBS. Full time staff of between 8 – 14 persons (including contracted staff). Major deliverables thus far: Design Consortium Meetings NEON, Inc. ISEP, NIBD, RFI, PDP, PPEP, PEP Funding proposals 6

Board of Directors: 15 to 17 directors At-large group elected or appointed by directors Membership group elected or appointed by members Majority of directors are from the At-Large group Rotating three year terms 11
