  1. Multipara Monitor – what is it and how does it help

  2. Introduction • Monitoring is essential in any kind of medical practice. It is the observation of disease, condition and several other parameters over time. • Usually a medical monitor is used for continuously measuring vital signs. • Monitoring can be classified by the target of interest.

  3. Most Common Monitored Parameters • Cardiac monitoring – This generally includes continuous electrocardiography. The patient’s condition is assessed relative to their cardiac rhythm. • Hemodynamic monitoring – In this kind of monitoring, the blood pressure and blood flow within the circulatory system is monitored. • Respiratory monitoring – Pulse oxymetry includes the measurement of the saturated percentage of oxygen in the blood. The CO2 levels can also be measured using respiratory monitoring. Other than that AWRR (Airway Respiratory Rate) can be monitored too.

  4. Most Common Monitored Parameters • Neurological monitoring – Monitoring of the intracranial pressure and brain EEG monitoring us a part of neurological monitoring. • Blood glucose monitoring is also an essential parameter to be monitored in patients. • Body temperature monitoring is important in certain cases.

  5. Monitoring the vital parameters include ensuring that most of the above mentioned parameters are within acceptable range. • Anything beyond that would require medical attention – sometimes even urgent attention. • The most common parameters that are monitored are blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate and pulse oximetry. • Multi-parameter monitors can simultaneously measure and display the relevant vital parameters. They are most widely used as bed side monitors. These are used in critical care units and operating rooms. These kinds of monitors allow for continuous monitoring of a patient and the medical staff is continuously updated and informed of any changes in the stats.

  6. This gives them real time information about the condition of the patient. Some of the advanced monitors can even warn about the pending fatal cardiac conditions before visible signs are noticeable. • A monitor basically consists of one or more sensors, processing components and display devices. • It also consists of communication links for displaying or recording the results. Sensors usually include biosensors and mechanical sensors. • Translating components are responsible for converting the signals from the sensors to some format that can be displayed on the external display or recording device. • The display device is used to display the physiological data continuously on a CRT or LED or LCD screen. Most of the modern display devices also use digital signal processing (DSP) which can also track multiple parameters at a time.

  7. With such multiple parameter monitors it is possible to detect changes or absence of changes in the clinical status of the patient. • The doctors can then take an informed decision about the treatment plan and the course of action needed to be taken for that particular patient depending on the readings of the monitor. • One of the leading medical equipment supplier Silverline Meditech, which supply  Multipara Monitor in India at affordable rates.
