Most Common Monitored Parameters • Cardiac monitoring – This generally includes continuous electrocardiography. These kinds of monitors allow for continuous monitoring of a patient and the medical staff is continuously updated and informed of any changes in the stats.
This gives them real time information about the condition of the patient. Some of the advanced monitors can even warn about the pending fatal cardiac conditions before visible signs are noticeable. • A monitor basically consists of one or more sensors, processing components and display devices. • It also consists of communication links for displaying or recording the results. Sensors usually include biosensors and mechanical sensors. • Translating components are responsible for converting the signals from the sensors to some format that can be displayed on the external display or recording device. • The display device is used to display the physiological data continuously on a CRT or LED or LCD screen. Most of the modern display devices also use digital signal processing (DSP) which can also track multiple parameters at a time.
