  2. What is S.T.E.M.? • Literally it means Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). • Encourages project based learning and hands-on activities. • Gets students engaged and thinking. • Perfect embodiment of the Scientific Method (i.e. trial and error, experimentation).

  3. What are the Benefits? • Your museum will be attractive to more teachers. • You will be eligible for more grant opportunities. • Your museum will remain relevant in a changing world.

One Step at a Time • Identify connections to state curriculum. • Identify connections to the federal Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). • What is the philosophy behind NGSS? “A high-quality science education means that students will develop an in-depth understanding of content and develop key skills—communication, collaboration, inquiry, problem solving, and flexibility—that will serve them throughout their educational and professional lives.”

The Process • Clear and easy explanation of what is happening in this chemical reaction • Vinegar (H C2 H3 O2) gives a Hydrogen atom (H) to Baking Soda (Na H CO3) and gets Sodium (Na) in return. • The H atom joins with the other H atom in Baking Soda and an Oxygen to create water. • This frees up the remaining CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and makes all the bubbles. • To help students understand this I have them act out the reaction playing the role of atoms.
