Exposition • Setting • Venice • Cypress/Cyprus • Characters: Othello, Iago, Desdemona, Roderigo, Emilia, Brabantio/Brabanzio, Gratiano, Lodovico, Montano, Cassio, Bianca, The Duke of Venice • Background: • Roderigo has asked Brabantio to marry Desdemona and he has told him no. Now Roderigo is paying Iago to spy on Othello. • The reason why Iago is mad: Othello chose Cassio as lieutenant

  3. Rising Action • Iago want to get back Othello • Othello not believing in Desdemona • War between Venice and Turkey • Roderigo wants Desdemona

  4. Climax • Emilia finds the handkerchief, gives it to Iago and he leaves it for Cassio to find. • Iago talks to Cassio about Bianca, but Othello thinks they are talking about Desdemona. Iago then tells Othello that Cassio confessed to sleeping with Desdemona. • The storm takes out the Turkish army • Roderigo and Cassio’s1st fight when Roderigo gets wounded.

  5. Falling Action • Othello plans to have Iago kill Cassio. • Cassio has been demoted because he was drunk in public and wounded Roderigo. • Iago convinces Cassio to talk to Desdemona about reinstating Cassio. • Iago convinces Roderigo to kill Cassio which leads to the 2nd fight, which leads to Iago stabbing Cassio and then stabs Roderigo (for the purpose of covering his tracks).

  6. Resolution • Roderigo dies from Iago’s stabbing. • Cassio is wounded, but alive and becomes Governor of Cypress (which was formerly Othello and Montano’s positions) • Othello strangles his wife • Emilia confesses to Othello what really happened. • Iago kills Emilia, flees and then is captured by Cassio, Lodovico, and Montano • Othello kills himself and lays on top of wife. • Cassio has Iago arrested and jailed. • Montano stays to tell the story.
