  1. The Hair Growth Cycle By DR. KAVITHA GV MANDAL DIRECTOR OF SK TRUDERMA, DERMATOLOGIST, COSMETOLOGIST

  2. The Hair Growth Cycle An individual usually loses approx. 50 to 80 strands of hair every day. New strands of hair usually replace those that we lose daily. Usually the new strands of hair will have an average life cycle of 2 to 7 years. Each hair follicle produces new hair, which then grows in successive cycles before falling out. Hair grows from the follicle and the blood vessel at the base of the follicle will supply blood and nutrition to the hair.

  3. The life cycle of hair is divided into four phases: Anagen, Catagen. Telogen, and Exogen. 1: ANAGEN (GROWING PHASE) It determines the length of the hair and the growing phase lasts 2-7 years. 2: CATAGEN (TRANSITION PHASE) In this phase, the hair follicle shrinks and detaches from the dermal papilla and this transitional stage will last about 10 days. 3: TELOGEN (RESTING PHASE) This phase is called as resting phase because the old hair is rest and a new hair begins the growth phase. This phase usually lasts around three months. Around 10-15 percent of hairs are in this phase. 4: EXOGEN (NEW HAIR PHASE) Exogen is a part of the resting phase where the old hair sheds and the growth of the new hair continues. Approximately 50 to 150 hairs can fall out daily, this is considered to be normal hair shedding.

  4. If hairs enter the resting phase too early, excess shedding and noticeable thinning can occur. If you have any queries regarding hair care, feel contact SkTruderma, the Best Hair Clinic in Sarjapur Road, Bangalore.
