The resource book poster Two sources of information: • Avoids fluctuations of world market – advantages of a known income • Fair trade guarantees minimum harm to environment in terms of emissions, soil exhaustion and erosion etc • Conditions can be compared with those in typical LEDC ‘sweat shop’ environments (non exploitative) • The concept of the ‘social premium’, with examples of how this can benefit the local community • Idea of democratic decision- making within Fair Trade communities / cooperatives • Advantages of chemical-free farming to water-course pollution • Advantages of chemical - free farming in promoting bio diversity of insects, birds, animals, flowers • Use of low toxic dyes • Farmers guaranteed a fair price • Healthcare • Technical help with farming • Overtime pay • Maternity leave • ‘Kind to planet’ (whatever that means) • Kind to us +
