  3. Three Examples of Patience • The Farmer …See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. [8] You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. James 5:7-8

  4. The Patience of the Farmer Farmers cannot be impatient • Crops do not grow overnight. • They have no control over the weather.

  5. The Patience of the Farmer “Precious produce of the soil” • The harvest is worth waiting for (Mark 4.28-29; Galatians 6.9) • God is producing a harvest in our lives. • Establish your hearts (Luke 8.11-15). • Do not complain.

  6. Three Examples of Patience • The Prophet “As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.” James 5:10

  7. The Patience of the Prophets Prophets suffered, but were patient "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.Matthew 5:10-12

  8. The Patience of the Prophets Despite doing right, they suffered. “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,” 2 Timothy 3:12

  9. The Patience of the Prophets God cares for us when we are suffering • Elijah (1 Kings 17.6, 9) • Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel

Three Examples of Patience • Job “…You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful” James 5:11-12 • The Endurance of Job • Suffering leads to growth (James 1.4) • Job’s endurance • loss of wealth, health, & family • friends attacked as sinner and hypocrite • Satan predicted Job would turn against God • Job learned of God’s compassion and mercy
