  2. Intro • Weapons during the Elizabethan Era • Weapons! • For Nobles • For the Army • Armor

  3. Armies of Elizabeth • During this era, the nobles under Elizabeth no longer had to supply and support an army for England. • This caused rise of trained bands who were hired to fight • Also reduced overall size of England's military

  4. Weapons for Nobles • During this time weapons became more decorative Weapons are more decorative than functional Weapons are accessories rather than a killing tool

  5. Weapons for the Army • Battle Axe • Heavier weapon that bludgeoned cut armored opponents

  6. Weapons for the Army • Billhook • Knight killer • Knifelike weapon • Can be put in place of a pike

  7. Weapon for the Army • Crossbow (Arbalest) • Knight killing weapon • Pieced armor with power behind heavier bolt

  8. Weapons for the Army • Club or Mace • Heavy weapon that was good against armored opponents

  9. Weapons for the Army • Pike • Long stick (up to 20 feet) with a spike or billhook attached that was good against Calvary

  10. Firearms • During this time matchlock firearms were in use but were very expensive, inaccurate and slow (Slightly more than 2 shots a minute) • Cannons were more popular, eventually replacing the ballista and catapults.

  11. Armor • At this point heavy knight armor is largely obsolete with inventions like the crossbow, and gunpowder largely making the heavily armored knights slow and clunky • Other forms of armor is more decorative and used more to show status that provide protection
