  3. #probationworks • Probation’s 2017 #ProbationWorks Social Media Campaign focuses on the following themes to help explain how and why probation works: problem solving, domestic violence, mental health, addictions, and partnerships.  A series of video ‘shorts’ have also been produced as part of the social media campaign.

What works - PBNI model • 5 x students on PLO [ QUB RGR3; QUB UGR3; UUM RGR3; UUM UGR3 & UUM UGR3 {SWC or BM}] • Geography of sites / travel/ neighbouring team help • PT long arm – with OSF and support of whole team • Model of 9 day Induction • Learning inputs and supervision (1-1 and group)on Wednesdays • PT x 2 based within L&D – flexibility to include 1 x PT outside L&D • Technology – smart phone ; • Lap top ; PBNI APP

  6. #changeisus Change Management Future Proofing • Commitment to deliver the model (10 students in 2010 were reduced to 5 because of recruitment reductions) (historically students filled the job vacancies) • Reduction in L&D staffing – to meet front line operational needs • Resilience of teams – committed to support – overcome fatigue of “new”

Changes and Challenges PLO – Pilot initiatives ongoing – affects number of teams Directions about teams accepting students Even playing field ( generic v specialism) Maintaining the model – PT /OSF/team support University changes Being pro active about feedback – team and Sus Technology – V/L Laptops IT “blips” • Resources – budget / office space • DoJ / Health • Cross border co-operation • Staffing – agency contracts /new managers /retirements • Keeping focus on social work role – ASPIRE • Multi- agency & multi-disciplinary working

Achievements Ulster University Placement Provider 2016 • PLO feedback 360 degrees – “clear expectations from outset” “ everyone helpful and supportive” “opportunities to shadow” • OSF role linked to PiP - SWK733 – enabling – presentation • OSF becoming NIPTTP candidate in 2017/18 • SMT support to maintain current level of 5 students • L&D team drive access permissions for student folder – evidence via PIMS
