Objectives • Give and receive concrete, actionable feedback on implementation plans • Develop a plan to continue building supportfor your TIME Collaborative redesign and to identify and engage allies • Develop a clear understanding of NCTL support moving forwardand next steps to prepare for implementation

  4. Presentation Structure • Presentation: 25 minutes • Q+A from Panel and School Teams: 10 minutes • Panel confers on feedback. School Teams write down their input, and next Presenting Team begins to set up: 10 minutes • Feedback from Panel. School Teams submit feedback forms: 15 minutes • Transition Time before next presentation: 5 minutes (if needed) Presenting School Team Panelists – Guests and NCTL staff School Teams with their Feedback Forms

  5. Organizing Your Feedback Goal of Feedback • Help the team improve their plan Suggestions • All audience members use the feedback form • Highlight what’s strong • Give specific suggestions for improvement • “What if…?” or “Have you thought about…?” work well

  8. Keeping Track of It All Choose Roles Scribe = Blue Focuser = Red Timekeeper = Yellow Throughout the afternoon, your scribe should take notes for your team, your focusershould keep you on task, and your timekeepershould keep an eye on the clock.

Build Support: Become a Spokesperson For Your New School Day Today, you’ve made a clear, concise presentation of your plan Redesign Team In the coming days and weeks: Leadership Team • Integrate information about your plan into meetings, newsletters, emails, Twitter feeds, etc. – make sure everyone is in the know Teachers and Staff • Share details about your plan AND your process from here • Use your best messengers for each audience Parents, Partners, Students

  10. What Should Your School and District Communicate Throughout April? The Plan or Plans • Be crisp and clear about the opportunities for students, teachers, and partners in your new school day • In your outreach, focus on the areas each audience is most interested in The Process from Here • Final plans are due to NCTL on Tuesday, April 16 • NCTL’s decisions made by May 1 and shared with district leaders and school teams • The date by when your school and district will make the final decision about going forward – Target Date = May 30th • Anything you know your school AND district still have to finalize before going forward such as: • Secure districts, state, federal, or private funding if necessary for implementation • Any changes needed in the collective bargaining agreement • Transportation modifications

  11. What Happens Next? If your plan is approved for implementation: NCTL will Support your School Strengthen + Improve Implementation • Coaches will support the communication and rollout of your plan • NCTL will develop baseline indicators (e.g. essential elements) to begin tracking progress Before School Ends Early Summer • School teams will attend 2 full-day, pre-implementation sessions to prepare for adding more and better time • NCTL will provide ongoing coaching and technical assistance sessions • Schools will work with NCTL and districts to monitor progress • Schools will have multiple opportunities to network within and across states Next Year

Tips for Sharing your Plan for a New School Day and Year DO: DON’T: • Use today’s presentation • Be clear about the benefits and opportunities for your audience • Show how you’ll build on the best things you do now • Remind people how much input you’ve gotten and how many different people have helped develop the plan • Share your plan and the process from here • Coordinate with your District leadership on messaging • Allow time for questions – write down questions when you don’t know the answers • Hide from people or keep your plan a secret • Forget to share start and end times for the day • Assume anyone remembers what you’ve already told them • Have just one person be the messenger • Forget to use your allies and partners to build support • Give up. You’re almost done with your plan. . .

Processing Your Feedback • Review all feedback sheets and feedback from panelists • Synthesize and prioritize feedback for your plan • Strengths, Areas for Improvement, Solutions • Not all feedback is created equal… • BUT: don’t disregard good, challenging feedback because it will be hard to address in your final plan. Keep pushing! • Create an Action Plan to incorporate best suggestions

  17. Next Steps Planning • Finalize your plan for SY2013-14 implementation • Share your plan and the process moving forwardwith key stakeholders, in order to bring them onboard • Determine when and how you will prepare staff and partners for implementation

  20. Reflecting on Lessons Learned Reflect on and record what you’ve learned about yourself, your school, and your community this year. Be ready to share with the large group before placing your feedback in your school’s envelope. I used to think . . . . Now I think . . . . We’ll return these to you when the next school year begins
