Humans grow from a single cell…HOW?!?!. Cells make copies of themselves in a process called MITOSIS. (MY-TOE-SIS). Cell Cycle. Pre-Mitosis: INTERPHASE. This is where the cell spends most of its time Cell grows, gain nutrients, copies DNA. Interphase = In-between. Step 1: PROPHASE.

  2. Cells make copies of themselves in a process called MITOSIS • (MY-TOE-SIS)

  3. Cell Cycle

  4. Pre-Mitosis: INTERPHASE • This is where the cell spends most of its time • Cell grows, gain nutrients, copies DNA

  5. Interphase = In-between

  6. Step 1: PROPHASE • DNA condenses into chromosomes • Chromosomes pair up with their exact copy • Nucleus breaks down

  7. Prophase = Pairs

  8. Step 2: METAPHASE • Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell • Chromosomes are attached to fibers that stretch from the poles to the middle of the cell

  9. Metaphase = Middle

  10. Step 3: ANAPHASE • The stage when chromosomes separate • Each singular chromosome pulled to opposite sides of the cell by fibers in the cell

  11. Anaphase = Apart

  12. Step 4: TELOPHASE • Cell membrane pinches off to form two cells • Nuclear envelope reforms around DNA • Chromosomes uncondense
