  1. Ruled and Regulations of an Individual SportTennis (Male - singles) By Gabi Madden

  2. Basic Rules • Double Bounce- The ball can only bounce once in either players’ side of the net • Tram lines- If the ball goes into the tramlines your opponent gets the points • Serving- You have to get the ball in the service box • Second serve- If your first serve is unsuccessful, you get a second chance • Let: If the ball hits the net and over from a serve, you get to retake it.

  3. Assessing The Rules • Second Serve: This rule is fair, it allows players to get the game going, if this rule didn’t exist players would either; serve too slowly or lose too many points on unsuccessful serves.

  4. Regulations • Shoes- Players have to wear proper tennis shoes, to protect the court from tread-marks. • Court size- Has to be 27 feet wide and 78 feet long • Racket- it has to have the stitches attached and unbroken strings

  5. Assessing The Regulations • Shoes: They have the rule for tennis shoes so the players don’t damage the court, this is especially useful for clay courts, as they get damaged more easily. This regulation isn’t that useful, but it’s hard to improve or change it.

  6. Roles of the Officials • The types of officials in tennis are: Chair Umpire, Line Umpire and also Off court officials; Referee and Chief Umpire

  7. Responsibilities of the Official • The responsibilities for the officials (especially line judges) is to stay sharp and concentrate at all times, so they don’t Call an ‘out’ wrong. The chair umpire also has to try not to get into arguments with the players, but this still happens quite often

  8. Scoring System In each match the score is best 5 sets, To win a set you need to get up to 7 games and with a 2 game lead. If the two players are tied at 6-6, they go into a Tie break in the tie break the points go up by 1, when you get to 7 with a two point lead you win, if it’s tied or you’re on a 1 point lead at 7, you keep playing until you get a two point lead. If the game goes into the fifth set, the match isn’t decided by a tie break In Games: When a player successfully hits a shot that doesn’t get returned, the player will get 15 points, the second success will be 30, the third 40 and the fourth, you win the game. If the scores go to 40-40 you play ‘Deuce’ Which you need to get 1 point to take you to advantage, if you get a point while you’re on advantage you win, if you don’t, it goes back to deuce .
