  5. Textbook on 학습자료실 • Your “text” for this semester is digital. To read the file you must have http://www.openoffice.org/download/ • You should download the file to your computer and use it as a text, reference, and study aid during the semester. • Each week I will tell you which pages to print/ bring to class. • I recommend printing the entire book at the print shop. This is probably more convenient (and maybe cheaper) than printing individual pages week by week.

  7. Attendance: Attendance is 10% of your final grade. Each unexcused absence is -2.5 points from your final grade. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will be absent. Four (4) unexcused absences will give you an ‘F’ grade for the semester. Show me a “real” excuse note to be excused.

  13. Participation: Participation is worth 20% of your total grade. Bring your textbook, notebook paper and any handouts that were given to you. TURN OFF your cell phones. You will lose participation points for sending/receiving calls or text messages. Speak English. Do your best in class Do not copy from your partner.

  18. Quizzes: Quizzes will be worth 15% of your final grade. There will be between 3written quizzes this semester. If you are absent without an excuse, you cannot take the quiz. Quizzes are taken individually, do not work with your partner or as a group.

  19. Homework: Homework will be worth 15% of your total grade. Homework must be submitted on or before the due date. Homework that is not submitted on or before the due date will not be accepted. Homework may be made up if you have an excused absence. If your absence is not excused, it will not be accepted.

  20. Getting to Know Someone. Who is Tim Roberts?

  21. Timothy Byrd Roberts was bornMay 30th, 1964 in Anchorage, Alaska.

  22. He has 5 sisters. • Two of his sisters are older, and three are younger.

  23. During high school, he joined the wrestling team in the winter, ... ...and he ran track in the spring

  24. He worked for his father’s “surveying” company each summer.

  25. Afer graduation, he went to junior college in sunny Florida.

  26. Next, he went back to Alaska to finish a university degree in English,

  27. ...and he worked during summer vacation at an Anchorage golf course.

  28. After university, Tim taught English for two years in Niigata, Japan.

  29. He spent a verycold winter in Russian Siberia (1997-1998).

  30. In 2000, Tim came to work in Korea for the first time.

  31. The next year, he went to work at a university in Thailand. The pay was terrible...!

  32. When he returned to Korea, Tim worked at universities in Daegu, Incheon, Gyeongsan, and Hayang.

  39. Mid-term Exam: The mid-term exam is worth 20% of your final grade. This is a speaking exam. You will work with a partner. You will get an ‘F’ grade if you do not take your exam.

  40. Final Exam: The final exam is worth 20% of your final grade. This is a speaking exam. You will work with a partner. You will get an ‘F’ grade if you do not take your exam.

  41. International Lounge You must go to the International Lounge (IL) five (5) times this semester: • Go to the Elementary class ONLY. • Participate Actively • listen carefully • ask questions • answer questions • do all the activities - speaking and writing • Have the lounge teacher sign your sheet at the end of the class. • Show your sheet to me each 3-week period • No later than week 4 (class time) for first box.
