  1. USSOCOM Language & Culture Seminar Dear Seminar Attendees, Welcome to the annual United States Special Operations Command Language and Culture Seminar at the Ramada Plaza Beach Resort, Fort Walton Beach, Florida from 29 August to 1 September 2011. Our focus this year is Village Stability Operations (VSO): what VSO is, how language and culture capabilities are necessary to success in VSO, and how the language manager must account for this in the organizations language program. The agenda includes presentations and round-robin workshops addressing VSO, instruction on new or improved training software licensed for use by one or more of our components, a panel discussion, program leadership, and component command presentations . This “continuing education” for Special Operation Forces command language program managers provides our language managers a forum to exchange ideas and information with counterparts in government and industry. Additionally, we will present the SOF Command Language Program of the Year Award during the Seminar’s social event during the evening of Day 2. I look forward to an enjoyable and productive seminar that will stimulate open discussion and facilitate an exchange of ideas.
