  2. DRCN National Picture (2013) • Based on a review 31 DTM (40% sample) • Existing national DRCN = 21,500km • 80% earth • 15% gravel • 5% blacktop (Terai and KTM Valley) • Required national DRCN 30,000km • A quarter still needs to be built

  3. Village Roads • Existing national VRCN 26,000km • Average per VDC = 7.6km • Well within VDC capacity to manage

  4. VDC Accessibility • 40% national population access via SRN • 37% national population access via DRCN • 23% national population has no access • 836 VDCs nationally have no access (21%)

  5. DRCN Improvement • Gravelling – 12,500 km nationally • Black Top – 3,000 km nationally • Widening – 2,800km nationally • Bridges – 25,400 m nationally

  6. New Construction • 8,000 km nationally • 16,400 m of bridges

  7. Maintenance (Average per district) • Emergency – 289 km • Routine – 289 km • Recurrent blacktop – 14 km • Recurrent gravel – 49 km • Recurrent earthen – 228 km • Periodic blacktop – 14 km • Periodic gravel – 49 km

  8. Costs over 5 years • National costs NRS 206 billion (US$2,060m) • 20% for maintenance of DRCN • 47% for improvement of existing DRCN • 33% for new construction

  9. Budgets • National budget of NRS 68 billion (US$ 680 m) • 50% from GON and 50% from donors • Covers only one third of required funding. • It will take 15-20 years to achieve all weather DRCN
