SKILL MIX IN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT POLYCLINIC INSTITUTE (FGPI) ISLAMABAD Dr Ramesh Kumar (Health Services Academy) ‘‘Skill mix’’ is usually used to describe the mix of posts, grades or occupations in an organization (strictly speaking, this is more accurately referred to as ‘‘grade mix’’). It may also refer to the combinations of activities or skills needed for each job within the organization. Mission: To be the leading, effective and enduring contributor towards improved health of the people in Pakistan FGPI was established in 1966 as central Polyclinic attached with Rawalpindi General Hospital with 8 bedded hospital. In 1986 redesigned with the name of Federal Government services Hospital (FGSH) with 253 beds. Recently in 2009 hospital has upgraded as Federal Government Polyclinic Institute (FGPI) with 545 bed facility. FGPI is constricted on 3.3 acres of land located in G-6 sector of Islamabad, which provides the medical facilities to parliamentarians, government servants and general public of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. FGPI services are accessible to approximately 3.7 million people of the Islamabad and Rawalpindi. • RECOMMENDATIONS: • Recruit more specialist doctors in the hospital. • Increase the current doctor to nurse ratio. • Experienced health work staff should provide opportunities for specialized trainings. • Deploy experienced health staff and technicians. • Trainings on skill mix for health workforce should be introduced. Vision: To improve the health of people in Pakistan • Objectives: • To determine the distribution of Health workforce in terms of skill mix. • To ensure the skill mix in health force at FGPI Islamabad. CONCUSION: There is need to increase skill mix to cope with challenge of growing demands of medical facilities for general public.
