  2. Early Life • Born July 30th, 1511 in Arezzo, Italy. • Died June 27th, 1574 in Florence Italy. • Lived to be 62 years old.

  3. Early Work • Vasari’s first teacher was Lucca Signorelli. • His next teacher was Guillaume de Marcillat. • Met Michelangelo and Raphael. • Studied under Michelangelo.

  4. Early Work (cont.) • Vasari then went to work under Francesco Salviati. • Helped recover “David” satue for Michelangelo.

  5. Le vite de più eccellenti architetti, pittori, et scultori • When Vasari returned to Rome in 1564, he started to write a book on the lives of famous artists. Even before then, he was collecting bits of information since 1543.
