  1. Over $4 Million Awarded After Medical Error

  2. Lacy Povrzenich is 22-years-old now, but she has had kidney problems since she was a child. When she was 17-months-old, she began to see Dr. Dawn McCracken after she kept getting urinary tract infections. McCracken performed blood work which returned levels indicative of kidney impairment or injury. However, nothing was done concerning treatment for her kidneys. In 2009, Lacy saw a physician’s assistant and had high blood pressure readings during two visits. There was no follow up for the blood pressure results. Two weeks later, she had to be flown to Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital where she was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. She did get a transplant, but a jury found the doctor to be 85% responsible for her injuries and the facility she visited to be 15% responsible. The total settlement amount was $4,242,573.

  3. WHAT CAN HAPPEN The Story may not present itself as a child injury, but it was. The doctors and facilities involved were responsible for providing a high level of care yet they did not. They offered a missed diagnosis of a condition that ended up costing Lacy dearly. The pain and suffering she endured is tragic. All of these people need to be well-trained and alert at all times. If they are negligent in their duties, a child could be seriously harmed.
