  3. Critical and Creative Thinking LessonsGrades K-6Level I • Open-ended lessons are designed to develop critical and creative thinking skills. • Strategies are embedded in lessons across all subject areas and grade levels. • Responses to lessons are used to identify and nurture gifted potential.

  4. Differentiated Lessons in Areas of Academic StrengthGrades K-6Level II • Differentiation provides challenging content, assignments, resources and flexible instructional groupings in one or more areas of identified academic strength. • Instruction provided by the teacher in the classroom. • AART collaborates with classroom teacher to provide additional extension and enrichment resources.

  5. Part-Time Advanced Academic ProgramGrades 3-6Level III • Identified students are challenged through models and strategies designed to extend and enrich the curriculum. • Direct services may take the form of the AART co-teaching in the classroom or working with pull-out groups.

  6. Full-Time Advanced Academic ProgramLevel IV • The full-time advanced academic program is differentiated in all core subject areas. • Provides an appropriate level of challenge for highly gifted learners with a strong emphasis on critical and creative thinking, and problem-solving. • Mathematics curriculum is accelerated by one grade level and readings and resources that are used in other subject areas are also presented at advanced levels.

Testing Schedule 2014-2015 • Testing Windows– October 15-25, 2014 FCPS CogAT-Custom Form Grade 2 test administered to all Second graders Cognitive Abilities Test administered to specific grade 3-7 students November 17-21, 2014 Naglieri Nonverbal Test (NNAT) administered to specific students in grades 2-7 February 9-13, 2015 Naglieri Nonverbal Test (NNAT) administered to all students in grade 1

  8. Level IV Identification Schedule for Fall 2014 • OCTOBER 24Deadline to submit AAP Level IV Referralform to AART. Applies only to students enrolled in FCPS after January 2014 • FEBRUARY 3 Eligible students grades 3-8 begin attending full- time (Level IV) center

Level IV Identification Schedule for Spring 2014 • January 2015AAP office mails letters to parents of students found eligible for consideration for Level 4 services based on results of CogAT and NNAT testing (“the Pool”). • February 3, 2015AAP Level IV ReferralForm and optional materials due to AART for students in grade 2 who are not in the pool, and students in grades 3-7 • Late April AAP office mails decision letters to parents • Fall 2015 Eligible students grades 3-8 begin attending full- time (Level IV) center in 1st semester
