  3. YOUTH SECTION PHILOSOPHY Developing Better People Through Football • We understand that only a tiny percentage of young football players will become professional footballers, but all our young players will become adults within society. • We will focus on fun and enjoyment for ALL players, regardless of playing ability. • We will try to ensure that all our young players reach their potential as footballers and ensure that everyone who plays for our Youth Section develops as a person too. LOVE THE BALL LOVE THE GAME LOVE THE CLUB

  4. OUR CULTURE, VALUES AND AIMS TEAMWORK PRIDE HONESTY DEVELOPMENT At SNUFC Youth Section… • We aim to create a safe and fun environment for all. • Coaches will create child-centred training sessions and matchday environments. • New things are encouraged without fear of failure. • Everyone works together, for each other, on and off the pitch. • We will help each other to find creative ways of problem solving. • Everyone always tries their best – it’s always good enough! • We believe that if you help others, they will help you. LOVE THE BALL LOVE THE GAME LOVE THE CLUB

  5. THE PLAYERS FOUNDATION PHASE 5-11 We know that the FP is the beginning of the child’s journey into football. We encourage children to love the game, love the ball and love coming to the club. Players are encouraged to be confident and to make the game exciting. The players will be supported to master the ball. They will be creative in finding ways to keep possession and will continue to try new things without fear of failure. Children will be supported to find solutions to game-related problems. As the players enter adulthood, they will continue to hone and enhance the skills learned in the previous Phases. Working on techniques, being competitive and brave will help the transition to adult football at SNUFC. 9. HOW WE COACH Our coaches will continually challenge players to develop in accordance with the FA’s 4-Corner model (see below). We understand that most grassroots footballers will not become professional players. In order to develop them as better people as well as footballers, we will aim to provide them with a wide range of life skills. Coaches will use a combination of the 4-Corner Model and the Plan, Do, Review Training Strategy to ensure holistic development. An FA Coach Mentor is available to help all coaches who sign up.

  10. HOW WE COACH We will use practices which are game-related in differing formats and with varying constraints. Wherever possible, our practices will be based around the game. We ask our coaches to try to use the FA’s chosen model of learning: The Learning Cycle Different formats, environments, games… 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, 6v6, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11 Overload / Underload games Different sized pitches

  13. MATCHDAYS Our children are strongly influenced by our own attitudes and behaviour. At SNUFC Youth Section, we believe that… • A child’s matchday is the time for them to develop their technical, physical, tactical, social and psychological skills • We will always try our best to win, but we understand that winning is not the most important outcome in the SNUFC Youth Section – the development of our players is! • Children need positive, specific, feedback in order to help them improve. It doesn’t help them to tell them they’ve done the wrong thing • We encourage children to learn from their mistakes by thinking about what they might do if they had the same situation again • Children should feel confident, enjoy themselves and feel like they ‘belong’ at SNUFC. • Football inspires much passion and many varying opinions, but we should never let disappointment at a mistake affect our young players.
