  2. Let’s Review……. Over the past few weeks we have been studying about our national symbols. We have completed many different activities dealing with the symbols of our nation. I hope that you have learned a lot because now I want to see how much you have learned. We are going to take a look back at some of the things we have learned.

  3. A patriotic symbol, such as a flag, stands for the ideas in which people believe. • A landmark is an important natural or human feature that marks a location • A statue is a monument built to honor or remember a person, an idea, or an event. • A monument is built to honor a person or an event in history. • A memorialhelps keep the memory of a person or an event alive.

  4. Brochure Click on the brochures to go directly to the “United States Symbols” Brochure. The first activity we completed was a brochure. I have attached my brochure for you all to look at once more. In this brochure you included the following pieces of information for your assigned symbol: • What does your symbol symbolize? • What does your symbol represent? • Pictures of your symbol • Interesting facts • Location of your symbol

  5. PowerPoint Presentation Click on the computer to go directly to the “United States Symbols” PowerPoint. The 2nd activity we completed was the PowerPoint Presentation. In this activity you created a “Symbol Fact Book” as well as a PowerPoint Presentation over four United States Symbols. You also were given the opportunity to use your imagination to create a new U.S. symbol.

  6. Webpage Click on the computer to go directly to the “United States Symbols” Website. Each of you looked at the website that I created over the “Symbols of Our Nation.” You used that website to find interesting facts about the symbol of your choice. You also had the opportunity to recreate that symbol in your own unique way when you completed the independent art project dealing with your symbol.

  7. Now it is your turn to show me what you remember! • Take out a piece of paper and number it 1 through 6. • You are going to see 6 United States symbols. I want you to identify each of the symbols by writing down the name and the meaning or representation of each symbol. DO YOUR BEST!!!!

  8. Culminating AssignmentChoose 1 to complete. You must have at least4 full paragraphs in your letter. Use the resources you have completed during this unit to help you. You may also use any of the resources on this PowerPoint. • Write a persuasive letter to your principal explaining reasons why he or she should allow you to go on a field trip to visit a U.S. landmark, statue, memorial or monument. Be sure to include facts about the place or symbol you chose. B. Write a persuasive letter to a friend or family member explaining reasons why they should visit a particular landmark, statue, memorial or monument. Be sure to include facts about the place or symbol you chose.
