Article XIIThe Law and Gospel We believe the Scriptures teach that the Law of God is the eternal and unchangeable rule of his moral government; that it is holy, just and good; and that the inability which the Scriptures ascribe to fallen men to fulfill its precepts, arise entirely from their love of sin; to deliver them from which, and to restore them through a Mediator to unfeigned obedience to the holy Law, is one great end of the Gospel, and of the Means of Grace connected with the establishment of the visible church. On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, "You shall not covet." Romans 7:14 “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.” Romans 7:22 “For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.” Galatians 3:21 “Is the law then against the promises of God? He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.” Jeremiah 13:23 “Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Article XIIThe Law and Gospel Romans 8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:4 “that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans 10:4 “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” 1 Timothy 1:5 “Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,” Hebrews 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” Jude 20-21 “20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” Hebrews 12:14 “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” Matthew 16:18 “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” 1 Corinthians 12:28 “And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.” Article 12 -The Law and Gospel
