  1. WHY IS READING GOOD FOR KIDS? There is a lot to thank literacy for. For starters, the ability to comprehend this article stems from literacy and to be literate you need to be able to read. Reading lays the appropriate foundation for learning. To survive, thrive and function properly as a responsible member of society, learning is an essential thing that should not be overlooked. Since reading and learning go hand in hand, reading is extremely important. Reading gives people the ability to learn more about society and to mentally process, understand and obey general societal rules and general instructions properly. Though everyone irrespective of age and gender should read, reading is particularly important for children. Here are some of the reasons why reading is not just good for children but it is something every child needs. It Leads to Expansion of Vocabulary It is common for adults to come across new words whenever they read. This is particularly true with kids who encounter many words they have never heard while reading. When kids encounter new words through the books and other literary materials they read, they would have to check up the meaning of these words and the contexts in which they are used. This will give them more words to add to their vocabularies. Reading improves A Kid’s Grammar As kids read, they observe how their favourite authors compose sentences and use proper grammar. They learn how to compose their own sentences from these experiences. Vital things like the differences that are evident when punctuation marks are used are also learnt. This would improve their communication skills.

  2. Reading Protects Kids from Danger When kids learn to read and develop reading habits, they would be able to read and understand warning signs and labels. They would be conversant with words which connote danger and learn to abstain from these dangerous things. It Empowers Kids to Better Understand How the World around Them Operates Reading gives kids the ability to understand and make sense of what is going on around them as it enables kid’s read signs and stickers and posters. It teaches them the purpose of things around them and instructs them on how to use certain things they see. Reading Helps Kids Have Creative Imaginations Through reading, a child’s ability to create scenarios in his or her mind is honed. Words offer the unique ability of attaching imagery to them. A child’s imagination will be enhanced by reading books like Captain Underpants sold on The Works. This set of 10 books help boost a child’s imagination.
