  2. Carbohydrates • Contain most foods • Breaks down into simple sugars • Sugar is used by the body • Two Types of Carbohydrates : simple and complex • Sources: fruits, beans, etc…

  3. Carbohydrates(cont) Simple carbohydrates • Also called simple sugars • Are found in refined sugars Complex carbohydrates • Also called starches • Include grain products

  4. Fats • A component in food • Most fruits and vegetables, have almost no fat • Some foods have plenty of fat • An important part of a healthy diet • Help nervous system and brain develop • Sources: nuts , oils, butter, meats , etc…

  5. Fats(cont) • Three types of fats : unsaturated fats, saturated fat, trans fats. • Unsaturated fats are found in plant foods and fish • Saturated fat are found in meat and other animal products • Trans fats are found in margarine

  6. Protein • Many foods contain protein • Muscles, organ, immune system are made up of protein • Builds up the tissues in your body • Body uses the protein to make protein molecules

  7. Protein(cont) • Protecting human from disease • Helps legs, arms, lungs moving • Digestive juices helps break down protein in food to basic units. • Sources: meats, eggs, nuts, seeds , etc…

  8. Fibre • Important for your health • From plant-based foods • Helps digestive system to process food • Makes you feel fuller • Sources: beans, brown rice, fruits with edible seeds

  9. WATER • a chemical substance with the chemical formula H2O • contains one oxygen and two hydrogen • covers 70.9% of the Earth's surface • vital for all forms of life • important for humans and life. ● Water is liquid

Mineral • A mineral is a naturally occurring solid. • Minerals are the building blocks of rocks. • There are many different types of minerals. • Minerals are made of atoms of elements. • Different types of minerals have different crystal shapes. • Most minerals can grow into crystal shapes if they have enough space as they grow.

  11. Mineral(con) • A mineral is an element or chemical • A mineral is a body produced by the processes of inorganic nature • they are not plants or animals • Minerals are found in the earth • Some minerals like gold or silver • Minerals are inorganic

  12. Mineral(con) • Minerals always have the same chemical makeup • Minerals are non-living, solid. • Some minerals are rare and expensive • with a definite chemical composition • Minerals aren’t liquids or gasses • Each one is made of a particular mix of chemical elements

VITAMIN • A vitamin is an organic compound required as a nutrient in tiny amounts by an organism. • All natural vitamins are organic food substances found only in living things • Vitamins are substances that are found in foods • Body needs them to work properly • There was many kinds of vitamin

  14. VITAMIN(con) • Vitamin A in carrots helps you see at night • Vitamin C in oranges helps your body heal if you get a cut • B vitamins in leafy green vegetables help your body make protein and energy • Fat-soluble vitamins are happy to stay stored in your body for awhile

  15. VITAMIN(con) • Sources: milk, butter, cheese and eggs • Vitamin D in milk helps your bones • water-soluble vitamins, the vitamins don't get stored as much in your body • two types of vitamins: fat soluble and water soluble
