  2. What do you know about nutrition? T/F 1. Vitamins do not provide us with energy. 2. High Fructose Corn Syrup is a poison. 3. Avocado, olives and nuts are cholesterol free. 4. Most of our daily calories are spent on physical activity. 5. Muscle is primarily protein by weight. 6. Carbs and protein have the same calorie value/gram. 7. The #1 cause of vitamin toxicity is supplement abuse. 8. There are special diets that can prevent/cure cancer.

  4. My Goals Provide tools to be: • An informed consumer of food • Able to id when eating well and…when not! • Able to correct dietary deficiencies • Able to recognize when nutrition info is reliable and……. when it isn’t!

  5. About your instructor… • LA native; now in Gilroy • PhD in Nutrition & Physiologic Chemistry (UCLA, UCD), Registered Dietitian Nutritionist • Jobs=variety pack of nutrition related work • Fun=anything to do with food. Also hikingwith family and my --------->

Provide following info. • Last name, first name of each in group • Birth country + languages spoken besides English • How many of your group take supplements? • How many of your group drink sweetened beverages over 5x per week?
