  2. Database What is The Library Catalog? • The catalog is a database… • with records of all library materials: • books • videos • DVDs • media equipment • magazines • journals • newspapers 2

  3. B-CU Website Accessing The Catalog From B-CU Website Go to http://www.cookman.edu Click on “Library” 3

  4. Drop Down Accessing The Catalog From B-CU Website A drop down menu will appear. Click on “Search Catalog” 4

  5. Start Up Page The B-CU Library Start Up Page Click on the large “Search” icon to access the catalog. 5

  9. Keyword Search 2 Keyword Search • Select the appropriate search categories. • “Keywords” and “contain” are the most general. • “Keywords” uses all of the choices listed: Titles, • Authors, Subjects, Notes, etc. 9

  15. Advanced Advanced Search • Search up to three fields simultaneously • For each search box type your keyword and select • the category • Select Boolean operator AND, OR, NOT 15

  16. New Items New Items Search Select “Received Since” category. You may limit your search to only materials purchased recently by the library. 16

  17. Search Results 1 Search Results Search Form Area – Shows the categories you entered to search. You may make changes to the search if needed. Number of items displayed and number of items found 17

Search Results 2 Understanding Search Results The “Found As” area shows the field where your selected keyword was found.  In this example, the keyword was located in the Title, Note and Subject.  Remember the keyword search was for keywords located in the title, author, subject, note, etc. fields. 18

  19. Search Results 3 Understanding Search Results By holding your mouse pointer over the “Found As” areas, a text box appears showing specifically where the keyword was located. 19

  23. Search Results 7 Search Results When you create a list, a “Review List” button appears. Click the button to see your selections. The list is temporary unless the search is saved. Use “Save Search” button to save entire search including the list. 23

  26. Understand Results 1 Understanding Search Results The title of the item is prominently displayed along with the author's name. The result also shows the type of material, illustrated by the icon shown at the far right. This result is a book. Holding your mouse pointer over the icon displays the text name of the material. 26

  28. Understand Results 2 Understanding Search Results In the body of the result, the author is displayed along with the publication date and the location where the item may be found. This result shows the item to be Available, but you may see other terms, such as Missing, or Overdue. 28

  29. Understand Results 3 Understanding Search Results The call number helps to pinpoint the shelf location of the item. Holding your mouse pointer over the call number displays the collection where the item can be found. 29

  31. Electronic Resource 1 Electronic Resource This result is an electronic resource. Notice the Computer File icon. 31
