  2. The History of Raves Although many people may think that raves have only been in existence for the past eight to ten years, they actually began in the early 1980s.

  3. Raves began to grow in popularity in London by the mid 1980s. They were so popular and attended by so many ravers that they quickly became too large to continue to hold them in clubs. They then moved to the outer parts of the cities and where often held outdoors to be able to accommodate the large crowds. This was when raves also began to be held as an all-night event.

  4. Raves today are fairly commonplace and where they were once held only in the large cities, they can now be found in the suburban and more conservative areas of the country ( to USA).

  5. ClothingRavers Ravers wear airy clothing such as T-shirts, tank tops, tube tops, bikini tops, and open-back halter tops. These types of upper body clothes help partiers stay cool during long, intensive, after hours dance marathons.

  6. Ravers accessories include bright paraphernalia such as bracelets, necklaces, and earrings which typically have flashing lights built into them.

  7. Raves and illegal drugs go hand-in-hand.Ravers tend to take ecstasy pills which provide the energy to dance all night (and sometimes all day) long.

  8. Ravers have their own very unique culture. Not only do they have certain styles of clothes that they wear and a certain type of music they will listen to, they also have their own language. While the common motto of ravers is “Peace, Love, Unity and Respect,” otherwise known as PLUR, they have many other slang terms that one who is not a raver couldn’t possibly understand.

  9. The music that is played at a rave is different from mainstream music. This music is usually a repetitive series of beats but comes in many different styles. The music is played by a DJ and every DJ has their own type of music they prefer to play and their own style of doing so.

  10. The setting for a rave is usually a club, an abandoned warehouse, or in an outdoor venue. Typically, the venue needs to be quite large as the crowds can vary from hundreds to thousands of ravers.

  11. The rave culture is indeed unique to any other form of lifestyle or culture. Ravers, although they may be misunderstood by some, are really just people that love to dance, have fun, and make new friends.
