  3. September 2006 PAC Recommendations • Motivation The observation of a magnetic monopole would be a profound discovery in physics. However, it is very important to compare the goals of the proposed experiment with what has already been achieved in earlier experiments, for example at FNAL, in a more complete fashion than in the present proposal. • Experiment Since there is little experience with the operation of a SQUID detector in the environment of a RHIC experiment, some experimental tests would be extremely valuable and should be carried out by the proponents.
