  1. National Park Service Reaches Out to All AmericansThe Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA) is the community assistance arm of the NPS. Our goal? To share the Park Service's mission of conservation and outdoor recreation with communities across America. In 2009, we're working on 300 projects in almost every state Our work focuses on three national themes: engaging youth, promoting healthy recreation, and connecting parks to communities.www.nps.gov/rtca

  2. Community-based Trails: Great Barrington Trails and Greenways"Sometimes community members need a reminder about how precious our natural resources are. Connecting our project with the Appalachian Trail gives validity to the importance of our local trails."~ Christine Ward, project co-leader

  3. Concord River Greenway: Changing Perceptions through Art"In a city with a shortage of open space, the new greenway will offer recreational opportunities to walkers, bicyclists, or anyone looking for a respite from city life."~ Jane Calvin, executive director Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust “Art, by its very nature, also can transform perceptions.  The goal is to focus the experience of seeing and connecting with the river and to enhance the experience with a thought, a feeling, or an inspiration." ~ Wopo Holup Concord River Greenway Artist
