Introduction • Mr. Ablak – Science Department Head • Mr. Bilgin – Science Teacher • Mr. Gunduz – Science Teacher • Mrs. Glass – 4th/5th Grade Science Teacher • Mr. Ellis – English Teacher/Science Fair Committee Member • Mrs. Dippold – Assistant Principal • Mrs. Cooper – 4th Grade Math Teacher/Science Fair Committee Member

  3. What is a Science Fair? • Students answer a scientific question by applying the scientific method. • The process ends with a showcase event that shows the students that their work matters to the school community.

  4. How can you help your student? • Work together when choosing a topic. • Utilize the resources given in the Science Fair booklet. • Search online for other Science Fair Topics. • Stay on schedule with the timeline and due dates given in the Science Fair booklet. • Assist your student with experiments and other preparations.

  5. Stay on Schedule • Each section of the science project will be graded. • Review the timeline for information as to what section is due when. • The timeline/due dates can be found on the 4th page of the Science Fair booklet. • Due dates are also listed on each page.

  6. Timeline/Due Dates EACH PAGE HAS AN EXPLANATION OF WHAT IS NEEDED FOR THAT SECTION OF THE SCIENCE PROJECT. KEEP IN MIND, THESE ARE ONLY DEADLINE DATES, YOUR STUDENT IS WELCOMED TO TURN IN THEIR WORK BEFORE THE DUE DATE. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH – PARENTAL NOTIFICATION FORM/RESEARCH QUESTION MONDAY, OCTOBER 7TH – BACKGROUND RESEARCH/BIBLIOGRAPHY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30TH – HYPOTHESIS, VARIABLES, MATERIALS, AND PROCEDURE WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH – RESEARCH PAPER OUTLINE/ DATA COLLLECTION MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11TH – CONCLUSION/ABSTRACT FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH – FINAL RESEARCH PAPER MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18TH – DISPLAY BOARD DUE ***November 18th – November 20th : Students will present their science fair projects in class for their final grade. A selection of students will be chosen to compete in the Harmony School of Business Science Fair that will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2013.***

  7. Three Categories • There are three categories in this year’s science fair. They are: • Life and Behavioral Sciences (LBS) • Physical Sciences (PS) • Computer, Math and Engineering (CME)

  8. Advancement • If your student wins the HSB Science fair advancement is as follows: • Regional Science Fair • State Science Fair • National Science Fair

  9. HSB SCIENCE FAIR • What will happen on the day of the Science Fair? • Students will arrive early to set up • Board • Research Paper • Presentation • Judging will be between 9:00 – 11:00 am. • Judges will meet and decide on the winners • Public Viewing • Awards Assembly • More specifics of the HSB Science Fair will be given at a later time.
